I learned a lot about myself and open my lens through which to look at the world. I have never experienced anything the way I did in Sweden. Kaitlin M - Illinois State University View Entire Review

Discovery Through Self Reliance: New Academic Experiences While Experiencing Personal Growth
My experience was, though simply for academic reasons I would have chosen my other option, England, in order to take classes that lined up with my major more appropriately. The experience has not changed my future plans, simply given me different perspectives to consider while I pursue them. Matthew M - Illinois State University View Entire Review
Studying abroad definitely broke me out of my Americanized bubble. A lot of Americans who havn't been out of the country treat the world like it resolves around America but studying abroad changes that way of thinking. Kevin K - Illinois State University View Entire Review
Living in Sweden was a great experience, but I wish classes were more organized. Hyeri K - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review

I would do some things over again now that I've had the experience, but I don't regret going. Anthony M - Illinois State University View Entire Review
It was a good experience. There are parts I would do over again but I would not regret it. A student View Entire Review

I am more confident in my choice of major. I am a double major, and at first I was wondering which one I should focus on in terms of finding work in the future, but now I know that I want to do Neuroscience or at least something related to Biology. I also learned the importance of patience and planning, and several other life le... Julia D - Illinois State University View Entire Review
I know it is the cliché, but I really discovered parts of myself while abroad. I always wanted to go to Sweden as a dream, and now I have done it. William H - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review
I learned to be more understanding of different backgrouns. I became a more well-rounded person, and matured a lot. I plan to travel in the future, and due to the program I added another course of study back at ISU which I think I will really love. Katie L - Illinois State University View Entire Review
Yes certainly. It was the first time I ever lived abroad. Going to a European university also forces you to be a lot more independent than an American university, where you are kind of babied, so that's a good learning experience. Gabriel S - Illinois State University View Entire Review
It changed my views of the world and what it means to be american. I hope to return to Sweden in the near future. Jordan J - The University of Texas at Austin View Entire Review

This opportunity is the one I'm the most happy that I took advantage of. I learned how independent and responsible I can be. It taught me about how many people view the world from so many different perspectives. How people live differently on a small scale. It sparked my interest for learning about other cultures too, I'd love t... Katie H - Illinois State University View Entire Review
To just be able to study outside the US and in a foreign country was enough for me. I was very dissatisfied with the academic aspect but loved everyting else. The last two weeks in Europe was the best time of my life and what had made my entire experience worthwhile. I didn't hate my experience nor did I really love it, I am jus... Yes. As cliche as it sounds, I truly feel much more independent from it. It was an opportunity to meet the types of people that I never would have met before. I now have a better understanding of how other cultures view Americans, and how other cultures view themselves, which is quite a bit different than what I expected. All... I think a warmer place might have been nicer, but I also really appreciated going to Sweden so it's tough to say if I'd change where I went. I did really like the experience though, the people were great although they don't think so (I like how they were humble). There were also some great traditions there that were really fun... I gained independence, self-control, bilingualism, unwavering faith in my own tenacity and I fell in love. Benjamin B View Entire Review
My decision to travel was the best one I ever made, and studying abroad was a great medium for it. History books and guide books are no match for being right in the midst of a foreign culture. You notice that everything is at least subtly different if not drastically different. You realize what you like and dislike about your... About
Uppsala is the pre-eminent university town. Uppsala students live in a cultural setting with roots harking back several centuries and can experience student activities far beyond the ordinary. They live the traditional life of a student, both every day and on festive occasions–in student housing corridors and at student social clubs, called nations. Ball gowns and tie-and-tails elegance jostles with discos and pubs, and theater groups are just as self-evident as floor ball teams.
