Middlebury Schools Abroad is a program provider offering 32 abroad programs. Programs offered include Study Abroad and Intensive Language abroad programs in 18 countries such as Spain, Chile, The United Kingdom, and Germany.
Participants in the Middlebury C.V. Starr Schools Abroad don’t just study a language—they live it.
Many of our students major in disciplines other than foreign languages, yet all bring a level of proficiency that supports their commitment to language and cultural immersion. They sign and honor the Middlebury Language Pledge because they want the greatest possible challenge in a study abroad program and an authentic experience in every respect; academic, social, and even professional.
Participants take courses in most subjects, often with host country students, intern or engage in volunteer work, and live with a family or local students. Indeed, at every juncture of their time abroad, students have the chance to "live the language" and immerse themselves in the host culture.
Middlebury also offers intensive summer immersion programs in ten languages, as well as graduate programs in eight of these languages. For graduate studies, visit http://www.middlebury.edu/ls/grad_programs/ and for Language Schools, visit http://www.middlebury.edu/ls/.

"I learned a lot of adult things, like dealing with banks and pharmacies and government registration agencies. My Spanish improved notably. I was also able to do an internship while abroad which was one of the largest contributors to my learning and enjoyment of the program. "

"Initially I thought that this would be a difficult experience because I was abroad on an extremely tight budget. However this is one of the best things that could have happened because it forced me to find different ways to become a part of the city. Going to museum, concerts, local parks, hiking, living with a spanish speaking ..."

"A cultural learning experience that I can pull on in many different ways, new international friends that I will remain in touch with, a new perspective on learning, government and our economic system. I definitely think my experience was worthwhile and would highly recommend other students participate in the same program."
Rianna A Wellesley College
"I learned how to engage in my surroundings and form my own cultural conceptions. My experience was definitely worthwhile."
A student Wellesley College
"Absolutely worthwhile. I learned so much and I think the design of the program is wonderful. I love the independence, the encouragement of cultural and linguistic immersion, and the ability to generally live as if I were Chilean. I think the program is build on a wonderful foundation but I think a few things could definitely be ..."

"everything was worth-while. I would go abroad all over again- I absolutely loved it. But I would not do this program again. I would go either with a different program or simply cross-registering with the host university. It was AMAZING"
A student Wellesley College
"I gained the ability to completely navigate a foreign city alone "
Mary Lou F Wellesley College
"My German improved greatly, I made wonderful friends, and I learned how to assimilate in a new culture."
A student Wellesley College
"I learned a lot about cultural standards, specifically targeted toward German culture, but in my personal experience I encounter people from many different cultures because Berlin is an international city. It was worthwhile because through encountering others I learned a lot about myself and my behaviors. "
Lisa V R Wellesley College
"Learned Spanish. Yes. "
A student Wellesley College
"I reaffirmed my love for Germany, and discovered my love of Berlin!"
A student Wellesley College
"How to love living in a new culture"
A student Wellesley College
"YES. I have learned more about myself, about integrating myself into other cultures, about Spanish, and about Chile than I could have imagined. So many opportunities for future projects have also opened up here. "
A student Wellesley College
"I gained Italian fluency and by the end was extremely proud of my ability to navigate on my own in and outside the city. I made personal connections that have continued to stay with me, and I had a very rewarding academic experience. "
A student Oberlin College
"Of course, I learned a bunch of academic stuff. But I think the "life lessons" I learned were much more worthwhile. For example, I'm a blonde/blue-eyed/white girl from Minnesota. I'd never left the U.S. before this trip. I'd never had the experience of being The Other. I'd never been constantly stared at/made to feel like I did..."
A student Wellesley College
"Learned to be more independent; choose to spend more time on my own. "
A student Middlebury College
"I learned to be more confident and self-sufficient. I also really discovered my passion for medieval English history. It was definitely worthwhile, and I regret not going an extra semester."
Seraphina O Wellesley College
"Academic, personal, and above all language growth"
Shweta P Wellesley College
"I learned a lot through my experience, but I really learned the hard way. I don't think you have to be so isolated to learn the life lessons I learned abroad. "
A student Middlebury College
"I learned the value of speaking a language, both in improving my own ability to communicate and in my ability to blend more into the culture and fabric of a community. "
A student Wellesley College
"My confidence in my writing and my writing and researching skills improved vastly. I also learnt how to accommodate living in a space with a few dozen other students and gained confidence in putting myself outside my comfort zone to really enjoy my time abroad"
Brianna H Wellesley College
"I felt a higher level of confidence not only in my language ability but also in my own independence. It was a great opportunity to be a part of another culture's university system and experience life for a year outside of the U.S. Every moment was amazing."
Sheridan M Wellesley College
"I learned the limitations of my interests in the Arabic language itself. My love of the culture and history took a backseat to the language pledge, which I knew going into the program, but had not fully thought through. "
