Austin College
University Information
Austin College's Center for Global Learning facilitates Semester Abroad Studies and JanTerms. If a student would like to spend a semester abroad with Austin College, the he/she should stop by our office (Wright Campus Center #204) to begin the process. It is extremely important to go through the process in the office, otherwise the College will be unable to send the student's financial aid to the program and the student will need to withdraw from Austin College during their semester or year abroad. The Center's goal is to make each student's experience abroad a meaningful and engaging experience. In order for that to happen, students are required to go through the process in place at the Center.
We look forward to working with you and please read about other student's reviews and experiences at the different programs and locations that can be found at Abroad101.
Important Dates and Deadlines
As of right now, there are no firm deadlines in place for you to complete the Abroad101 Survey. However, before we can post your transcript from your sojourn abroad, you must complete the Abroad101 Survey and interview with the director (Truett Cates).
Thank you very much for your help and cooperation with this. We look forward to hearing about your time and experiences abroad!
"I gained many leadership skills by participating in the program. I look at the world in a different perspective then when i did before leaving. There many problems in developing countries world wide, that many Americans are oblivion to. By participating in a non-American culture, it opens up your eyes to the cultures all around ..."

"Before I went to Argentina South America seemed to be almost this forgotten vestige of the world. It's seems so separate from the US, Eurasia, and Africa. But now it seems such much closer, so much more open and I really want to travel and become acquainted with more South American countries."
Bryan B Austin College
"The research that I was able to do made up for any other shortcomings in the program. This study abraod program can be great if you put the time into it. "

"There are so many things that I gained from going abroad (to many in my opinion to even begin to discuss). It was the most memorable and best thing that I have ever been given the privilege of doing. I encourage everyone to go somewhere and really try to assimilate to the culture. Your life will not be the same. "
Samantha L Austin College
"I would not hesitate to say that this experience changed my life in terms of perspective as well as the tools I have learned to live a more fulfilling life in the future."
Rachael H Austin College
"I don't think that I've changed and those closest to me have noted the same thing. My study abroad experience turned out to be more introspective than anything else for me. The program was tough but that was not the only thing I remember about living in France. One of the things that I'm most proud of is not having lived in Pari..."

"I understand that I know very little about Japan and must go back to learn more."

"I definitely think my study abroad program was worth while. It showed me many parts of China that most foreigners do not get to see, but beyond that, showed the many disparities in wealth and culture that can exist even in a small portion of the country."
Kalyn R Austin College
"I learned to trust myself. I gained confidence. My Spanish improved worlds. I also learned that while I loved my experience and would do it all over again if I could, I don't have the same thirst to live abroad forever that I used to have. I learned that I love to travel and that I want to travel abroad or live somewhere for a b..."

"yes. It is difficult to describe in a short space how studying abroad has affected me. It was an entirely new experience, and one that I will not forget. "

"I gained technical knowledge (snorkeling, scuba diving with data collection purpose), hands on knowledge about marine ecology (fish identification, ecological understanding of the marine environment) and awareness of some of the political/social complications involved in managing marine resources. It has added insight into my fu..."

Gunjan C Austin College

"INCREDIBLE"
Matthew M Austin College
"I gained a new perspective and appreciation for American culture, which I had previously snubbed, and I matured a lot over the course of the semester. I started the program feeling like an out-of-place teenager, but I left feeling like a responsible adult who can live on her own and be taken seriously in society."
Coral K Austin College
"As I came to learn more Japanese, my time was still worthwhile. But if I had come for a cultural experience, I would be very disappointed."
Marie C Austin College
"I have learned so much in respect to culture food, environment and politics. It makes me realize America needs a lot of work. It made me realize I NEED to work abroad and I hope I will- there are so many opportunities to do so, all you have to do is apply! I really want to work for international organizations that are creating c..."
