Austin College
University Information
Austin College's Center for Global Learning facilitates Semester Abroad Studies and JanTerms. If a student would like to spend a semester abroad with Austin College, the he/she should stop by our office (Wright Campus Center #204) to begin the process. It is extremely important to go through the process in the office, otherwise the College will be unable to send the student's financial aid to the program and the student will need to withdraw from Austin College during their semester or year abroad. The Center's goal is to make each student's experience abroad a meaningful and engaging experience. In order for that to happen, students are required to go through the process in place at the Center.
We look forward to working with you and please read about other student's reviews and experiences at the different programs and locations that can be found at Abroad101.
Important Dates and Deadlines
As of right now, there are no firm deadlines in place for you to complete the Abroad101 Survey. However, before we can post your transcript from your sojourn abroad, you must complete the Abroad101 Survey and interview with the director (Truett Cates).
Thank you very much for your help and cooperation with this. We look forward to hearing about your time and experiences abroad!
"Definitely worthwhile, I would not change a thing, both the good and the bad experiences helped me grow as a person, and the program was always at the heart of my life abroad."
A student Austin College
"It was definitely worthwhile, as I was able to accept and adapt to another country's culture and learn their perspective on events of the world today."
A student Austin College
"i learned to let go"
Elise B Austin College
"Absolutely. It's hard to put a value on what I've learned while I'm still here--it won't be until I have to change back that I'm really aware of what I have gained."
Katie A Austin College
"I learned to look at other cultures from another perspective, and to not so easily judge. I also learned first-hand the hard balance between people and the environment, especially in third-world countries. It was definitely worthwhile. "
A student Austin College
"I learned more about myself, Scotland, how other cultures view Americans, living on my own, and maintaining friendships."
A student Austin College
"Learned about life in Edinburgh and learned a lot about Scottish culture, which btw is awesome. Got some experience living on my own. It was great, but I'm still not sure if it was worth getting so far behind back home"
John D Austin College
"I learned that I can put up with alot more crap than I thought I could. Studying abroad isn't as glamorous as many people expect it to be, and daily life (going to classes, hanging out with friends, drama) is very similar to life back home. It was worthwhile though."
A student Austin College
"I gained so much. I have learned so much about myself and so much about the world. It was definitely worthwhile and everyone should go abroad if they have the chance."

Sarah G Austin College
"My Chinese improved, my independence grew, and I learned a lot about Shanghai and China in general. After looking back at both of my semesters, I am glad I went."
Jeni B Austin College
"yes. I just had a blast. Culture isn't that huge. Its just a funny little aspect. "
Mark P Austin College
"Extremely. Although I had many complaints about the program that I chose (not the internship aspect, but Arcadia), I got out of the trip exactly what I wanted to. Sometimes you have to move passed the inconveniences and make the trip what you want it to be. "
Lillie F Austin College
"I knew absolutely nothing about the Middle East before I did this program. I gained a new perspective about international politics and how people view the US. I learned Arabic. I converted to Islam. I feel less ignorant about Arabs. "
Michael L Austin College
"I learned I could survive (and later thrive) in a foreign country so that had a big impact. I also learned to appreciate all the things I have back home that I took for granted."
Jarrett T Austin College
"patience"
Claire L Austin College
"Without a doubt one of the best experiences of my life."

Charles R Austin College
"yes; i learned how to mix with a range of people and not exclude myself. "
Sameen W Austin College
"Yes definitely. it brought me a better understanding of the word "different". and of the sentence. "it is not better, it is not worse, it is different". I think (and I hope) that I have gained in tolerance and awareness toward others. The experience reinforced my wish to work abroad."
Agathe D Austin College
"I lived abroad when I was younger, so I don't feel that my cultural awareness was heightened. I do feel like I learned a lot about myself, and there were a lot of days where it was really difficult. I caught the travel bug from this experience- it really expanded my curiosity about other ways of life."
Alexandra M Austin College
"Being in Morocco was the most incredible experience i could have had. I learned so many little things in life that you overlook when you're surrounded by comfort in the US. It was an amazing adventure that i wish i could live all over again."
