JCMU Japan Center is a program provider offering 3 abroad programs. Programs offered include Study Abroad abroad programs in 1 country such as Japan.
The Japan Center (JCMU) is a study abroad program formed from the strong sister-state relationship between the State of Michigan and Shiga Prefecture. Our campus is located on the shores of Lake Biwa in the City of Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. Our programs are dedicated to building relationships between Japanese, Americans, and other nationalities through active learning and participation in language, culture, family life and society. JCMU has been welcoming students of all majors since 1989. Students do not need to attend a member university to participate.

"So much was gained from inside the classroom as well as from beyond the classroom. learned the history of a country as well as the beauty of the culture. This is also the type of trip which teaches you more history than any history class you have ever taken. Going to Hiroshima was life changing being able to see with your own ey..."

"In this month-long program, I gained valuable experience and first-hand observations that taught me ten times more than all my other courses did back at Michigan State. Especially with TESOL, there's nothing more valuable than experience and the program staff knows this well. Easily the most worthwhile class I've ever taken in a..."

"This was one of the best programs I've ever done. The teachers were all amazing and super kind. I took the TEJ program and it was wonderful because we actually went to schools in Japan to help teach English so we got to do some hands on application. My plan is to teach English in other countries so being able to actually learn a..."

A student Michigan State University
"On top of the Japanese language skills I gained, I learned a ton about Japanese culture. JCMU's location in Shiga Prefecture was a scenic location with plenty of historical sites, and the area is close to Kyoto, Osaka, and Nagoya, meaning I could explore the country when I wasn't in class. It was an eye-opening experience, and t..."
A student Michigan State University
" I definitely learned how to interact with people that have a different first language and don't quite understand English and its quirks. It was painful to have to lie about enjoying my time at the program there all the time, though. I personally wished I had just visited Japan instead of studying abroad, especially at this prog..."
