Middlebury Schools Abroad is a program provider offering 32 abroad programs. Programs offered include Study Abroad and Intensive Language abroad programs in 18 countries such as Spain, Chile, The United Kingdom, and Germany.
Participants in the Middlebury C.V. Starr Schools Abroad don’t just study a language—they live it.
Many of our students major in disciplines other than foreign languages, yet all bring a level of proficiency that supports their commitment to language and cultural immersion. They sign and honor the Middlebury Language Pledge because they want the greatest possible challenge in a study abroad program and an authentic experience in every respect; academic, social, and even professional.
Participants take courses in most subjects, often with host country students, intern or engage in volunteer work, and live with a family or local students. Indeed, at every juncture of their time abroad, students have the chance to "live the language" and immerse themselves in the host culture.
Middlebury also offers intensive summer immersion programs in ten languages, as well as graduate programs in eight of these languages. For graduate studies, visit http://www.middlebury.edu/ls/grad_programs/ and for Language Schools, visit http://www.middlebury.edu/ls/.

A student Wellesley College
"My experience was absolutely worthwhile. I most enjoyed living a college experience for a semester that is so vastly different from life at Middlebury (in a city, not living on campus). While improving my French skills, I gained a new understanding of different ways of living."
A student Middlebury College
"I improved so much in my Arabic skills! I also found out what it was like to be abroad for the first time and when I solo-traveled to Tarifa in order to renew my visa, I felt a sense of independence that I hadn't before (lit's much different from going to the airport alone)"
A student Wesleyan University
"Totally immersed myself in a new culture, made friends, saw the world. Super worthwhile"
Eric T Bowdoin College
"I gained cultural experience, a great host family that I still keep in touch with, and increased language skills. Also I think I learned a lot about myself and my independence grew. "

Lola H Middlebury College
"I learned like about nationalism, but in a good way, people we’re proud to be Spanish, which was refreshing because in the US, we all kind of feel ashamed to be Americans sometimes especially with our president."
A student Middlebury College
"This was my first time being outside of the country, living in a big city, taking public transport regularly, etc, so I gained a great deal of new skills and independence. One of the strengths of the Middlebury program is that it does encourage its students to explore Paris/France independently."
A student Scripps College
"I learned not only Chinese language but Taiwanese language, culture, history, and current events. I also gained many many friendships that I keep up with almost everyday."
A student Wofford College
"It was worthwhile, but it was really hard. I got to meet many people who taught me so much about Chile. I also learned a lot about what I am like when all my supports are stripped away."
A student Middlebury College
"I definitely learned how to be patient. A lot of things took a long time and dealing with the administration was not fun, and it was easier to just go with the flow than try to force anything. I also learned more about the island and its culture, both the good and the bad. I learned a lot about myself too. This experience was ki..."

"It was extremely worthwhile. I feel like I have changed so much as a person; I am so much more resilient and confident. I have improved my French by so much! I have made new lifelong friends. I have learned so much and how to be much more independent. I still can't believe I was lucky enough to experience this. "

"I learned a lot about how to express myself in a foreign language, and in turn, find an identity for myself in another language. I also gained a lot of exposure related to the French education system, which allowed me to diversity my experience. I found the experience very worthwhile and would recommend it to others."
A student Middlebury College
"My experience was amazing, despite the program. I became very independent and had a more than worthwhile experience. My French developed rapidly and it unlocked the possibility of moving back abroad for me. I loved my classes at the university, I had a very unique experience there which was so so cool. "

"The world is worse off than I thought. It was eye-opening."
