In this directory you will see information from these organizations, which may help you fund your dream of study abroad.

The Experiment in International Living
2 scholarships available across 13 programsThe Experiment offers a discount of $500 for participants who have an immediate family member (parent/guardian, sibling, grandparent) who is an alumnus/alumna of The Experiment (including The Experiment Digital alumni) and/or for participants who are applying to participate in a second Experiment program. This discount cannot be combined with other discounts, though an applicant who receives a discount may also apply for a partial need-based scholarship.

American Councils (ACTR)
8 scholarships available across 12 programsThe U.S. Department of State, Program for Research and Training on Eastern Europe and the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union (Title VIII), provides fellowship support to graduate students in policy-relevant fields who wish to participate in the American Councils Advanced Russian Language and Area Studies Program (RLASP), the Balkan Language Initiative (BLI), or the Eurasian Regional Language Program (ERLP). Title VIII fellowships are awarded on the basis of financial need and academic merit. In the past, awards have covered as much as 75 percent of total program costs; however, awards may be considerably smaller depending upon the number and quality of applicants for a given program. To be eligible for Title VIII funding, applicants must: Meet the requirements of their selected program; Have completed their undergraduate studies by the time their program starts; Be enrolled or demonstrate intent to enroll in graduate study in a field relevant to the formulation of U.S. policy in the region; Be U.S. citizens; Demonstrate academic excellence. To be considered for Title VIII funding, simply indicate your wish to be considered for financial aid when completing the application for your selected program and complete all of the questions and forms that follow.

The American Councils Opportunity Scholarship is available to students who have encountered obstacles or challenges when accessing study abroad, educational exchange, and other academic programs. The scholarship is also available to first generation college students, students from low-income families, U.S. military families, and students with a history of overcoming adversity. These awards are based on both merit and financial need. The awards typically range from $250 to $2,500. All applicants to American Councils summer, semester, or academic-year overseas programs are eligible to apply for this scholarship which provides a round-trip ticket from the applicant place of residence in the US to their host city overseas. International round-trip tickets are issued by American Councils and are non-refundable and non-changeable. Awards are made on the basis of financial need and academic merit.

As a way to thank our returning participants, all American Councils Study Abroad Alumni who have completed an AC program at the time of application and enroll in another AC Study Abroad program will automatically receive a $250 credit towards an online program, $500 credit towards a summer program, or a $1,000 credit towards a semester program. Interested alumni should indicate their alumni status within the financial aid section of the online program application.

Fellowship Snapshot Eligibility Upper-level undergraduates (juniors and seniors) and graduate students are eligible to apply. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Award Amount Up to $2,000 (summer); up to $6,000 (semester); up to $12,000 (academic year) Available On All American Councils study abroad programs Established in honor of American Councils’ founder and President Emeritus and his four decades of leadership in the field of international education, the Dan E. Davidson Fellowship supports highly qualified and deserving individuals who would otherwise not have the opportunity to build the language skills that allow them to operate, negotiate, and establish ties in countries critical to U.S. economic, political, and social interests through language study and area studies coursework. Carrying on Dr. Davidson’s legacy, fellowship recipients demonstrate a dedication to successful international collaboration and the development of greater mutual understanding between the U.S. and countries around the world. Fellowships of up to $2,000 will be awarded for summer study, up to $6,000 for semester study and up to $12,000 for academic-year programs. To be eligible for the Dan E. Davidson Fellowship, applicants must: Meet the requirements of their selected program; Be a U.S. citizen; Be enrolled in and have completed two academic years of study at an accredited college or university by the start of their program; Demonstrate a commitment to becoming culturally aware citizens, contributing to a mutual understanding, and advancing successful international collaboration; Demonstrate financial need. To be considered for the Dan E. Davidson Fellowship, simply indicate your wish to be considered for financial aid when completing the application for your selected program and complete all the questions and forms that follow. At the conclusion of their term abroad, participants receiving the Dan E. Davidson Fellowship are expected to meet with donors and write an essay about their study abroad experience.

The Judith Ehm Foundation Fellowship: was established in honor of Judith Ehm, a trailblazing Korean American entrepreneur and businesswoman. The Judith Ehm Foundation Fellowships support highly motivated and deserving individuals who have completed at least one year of Korean language study (or the equivalent) and plan to participate in American Councils’ Korean Intensive Summer Language Program (KISLP). Applicants should demonstrate the academic and personal qualities necessary to succeed on, and benefit from, the program.

About the Ministry of Education of Taiwan (MOE) Scholarship The Ministry of Education of Taiwan offers scholarship support for participants of the Taiwan Intensive Summer and Semester Language Programs (TISLP) and Tradition and Modernity in Taiwan (TMT). The scholarships range up to $8,000 and are awarded based on academic merit and financial need. Awards may be combined with other sources of financial aid, including other American Councils scholarships, to cover program costs. About the Funder Since 2016, the MOE has provided critical financial support to more than 260 U.S. students on the American Councils Taiwan Intensive Summer and Semester Language programs. These awards make a vital difference in the ability of U.S. students to engage in intensive immersion-based language study in Taiwan.

1 scholarship available across 12 programsCET awards $400,000 in scholarship awards each year and supports the Fund for Education Abroad to lessen financial need as a barrier to study abroad. Most CET scholarship decisions are based on financial need, and scholarship awards are intended to encourage study abroad by helping to alleviate financial burden.
